If you asking me, it is not worth upgrading. I am using my smartphone only talking and I don't change until it gets broken.

No chance, phones barely progress these days in technology, Compare the difference between a galaxy s5 and an s6, huge difference, or like an iphone 4 to a iphone 5 same thing. But eg an s10 to the s20 rather minor differences, unless you can get a crazy trade in offer.

Best bet is to wait a generation after the next big leap in tech. Right now this could be either folding phones or phones without any holepunch. Waiting a gen after will help iron out many of the bugs, and you wont be paying a premium to have the very newest tech, like the galaxy fold for eg.

Well use your phone when it still working and not lagging ( i meant even phone can't handle newest version of software). I have my Galaxy J7 about 3 years, till this day runs and looks as new.

I don't think its worth upgrading every year.
I upgrade maybe every 5 years give or take unless something is happening with my phone and its outdated.
I'm currently running with galaxy s9 which has been a great phone to me and I don't see a reason to upgrade anytime soon.

I'd say 3 years is about the point in which someone should upgrade their phone. For how long phones last now (not to mention the price), there's really no need to upgrade every year unless you're making steps toward becoming a tech reviewer (or you have money burning a hole in your pocket).

I have a 4 year old Android phone that I keep running strong by flashing custom firmware. Rooted since day 1 and still does everything I need it to smoothly. Phones have started to plateau as far as yearly increases in performance goes.

I think you should upgrade your phone every 2 years at least since processors don't change much every year, and you can see a real upgrade every two since my experince

Don't upgrade.
Buy cheap one (not the most, but just cheap) and use it. When it breaks, buy a new one (cheap too).
Buying "cool" phones won't make you happy. Buying phones each year won't make you happy.

There is no reason to upgrade phone every year. Pick a good phone based on your usage and use it for 2 to 3 years until the battery doesn't hold charge. Almost all the smartphone doesn't come with removable battery, so they kind of force us to replace the phone itself. So I end up buying new phone at that point of time.

I had the flaw that each year a new phone came out I bought it.
I was very happy with it each time however due to the fact that I got it so soon everytime I always ended up waiting for a lot of bug fiixes and improvements etc.

Once when I got my new phone it took the creators about 6 months to have all their bugs and flaws sorted out, tbh back then it was a waste of my money. I'd recommend waiting atleast 6 months since the release date of the phone you are willing to get.

And now the only thing I REALLY need, and probably most of you all is a better battery ( increased storage )
