Duke Nukem 3D and Doom 1&2 are also pretty great.

I used to be obsessed with it, like back in high school I basically did nothing but play this game. Over and over, I'd beat it then start over with new characters, always trying to find something new. Mods made that possible, since there were so many of them. It's kind of crazy to think that people are actually still making them. I replayed this whole series again a couple years ago using mods that had just recently been published/updated. It must have been about 20 years old at the time.
