If you want thriller, start with death note.
If you want powers and cool fights, hxh or dragon ball.
If you want sports, haikyuu!.

I'd agree with Dragon Ball Z (I think they meant Z, not the original Dragon Ball). It's solid.
I always recommend Full Metal Alchemist for a first time watcher. Simply can't go wrong with that. Keep in mind there's Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. That one is different and I suggest the original first.

If it's ur first time with anime well u should start with an anime rly flashy with good graphics cause it'll be less difficult to watch for you.
so i recommand u recent anime like KnY ( Kimetsu no yaiba ) attack on titan in english, SnK ( Shingeki no kyojin) demon slayer in english, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood or One punch man.
Even though they aren't my favorites, they are all rly good pretty well known (easy for you to talk with anime fans and get some tips for other anime) and still are pretty hype.

Please if u can watch it with japanese voices it's way better

Find an anime that mirrors your interests in other non anime shows is my best advice.
I disagree that you have to start with a "core" set of all the "traditional ones" that some people state but they're definitely a good place to start.
The suggestion above for FMA Brotherhood is a really good one.

Some other short favorites of mine so you don't feel you have to watch a FULL series of 100s of episodes?
Baccano! and Death Parade

Read about the different genres of anime and choose something. After that it will be easier to find something that fits

Maybe dragon ball. It might be hard watching dragon ball after watching something modern, but it's still a classic.

Watch anything recent, to see if you like a quick one, watch a 12-24 episode one.

Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, one-piece and death note. Just search on Netflix
