I've started a course for Unity. Godot is another engine that looks interesting. depends also on what you are developing for PC, mobile, web?

I do not know which one is the best - cause it's probably somewhat based on subjective likes or dislikes, but as far as I'm concerned - Unreal Engine is one of the easiest one to start.
After six months I was already making some $$$ because of what I can make in it.

RPG Maker and Gamemaker Studio are great programs! There should be free demos for both around the internet, along with tutorials to match. RPG Maker is more of a simple formulaic engine to play around with, but if you're potentially planning a more ambitious project, Gamemaker Studio has a lot more capabilities to match.

Being a student and having used both Unreal Engine and Unity, I would say it goes on your experience.

If your new, Unity is the best to start with. It's much easier for someone starting out in where Unreal is more for folks that have knowledge within that area and for a new person, might be more confusing since it uses blueprints and c sharp where Unity uses C++, a much easier language to learn while coding in my experience.

My fave is Unreal Engine 4. I've tried Unity and always come back to UE4. I prefer coding in C++.
