Best Version of Minecraft Server?

minecraft is not running on my pc. what can i do to make the game work for me?

1.12.2 is the new king 1.7.10 was the old best but new best is paper 1.12.2

1.8 i think i play on that version.

Most stable version is 1.12.2
I prefer spigot 1.8.8 though.
1.7.10 is also pretty chill.

For post 1.12.2 versions, you would probably need 5+ GB ram, as there are quite a few bugs and memory leaks in those versions.

I'm assuming that these are the MoJang Java versions you are talking about since Microsoft versions suck a donkey's... uh... yea...
