a bit of context im a graphic designer who trying my hands on 3D and self-teaching myself through youtube videos for a while.
I started with C4D because it was the most popular at the time but after a while i learned that Blender is free and is an open source software, I decided to give Blender a try and since then didn't look back at C4D.
I think Blender interface and the way it deal with things is a lot more friendly and easier to understand, coupled with a very large community of not just user but devs, the updates is rolling out faster than I can download them, and since its a free software, a lot of people are using it and so the amount of information and contents people churning out are insane, ranging from quick tutorials, in-depth explainations, work-flow, experiments.

I think if you're interested in 3D and want to try out, Blender is go to (since its free). Only later when you're competent with 3D and know what you're looking for from each software then maybe consider other stuff like C4D, 3DX, Maya etc.

I'm all into Blender, I used to use C4D - but in term of $$$ ; I eventually sided with Blender.

Here's some of the examples of work I've crafted out on Blender.

I use Cinema 4D but I recommend trying out blender first (especially if you're just starting) blender is free. If you have learned the whole basics of 3D you can now jump to Cinema 4D. a bit pricey, but I think it is worth every penny.

I work with Cinema 4D because it is the program I learned many years ago. If I were to start again today, I would probably learn Blender.
