If you're going to play games, you should use the desktop. Prefer laptop for normal use.

I use both. But I prefer desktop over laptop because it's much more comfortable.

i got an HP laptop, windows 7 by default, but i installed windows 10 on it.
and, i can say a couple of things.
laptops are useful if you want mobility, cause, you never will see, a laptop with 32 or 64 GB of RAM, 4 TB of hard disk, and a 2 GBps network card.
of course, this is server specifications anyway, it is possible in a desktop also.
if you love hardwares, you may want to have your 1st class computer.
so, that's why i can guarantee.
i am a owner of a laptop, but, for really faster computing, the best thing is a desktop.
cause, a simple dual core work more faster than a laptop with quad core.
cause, desktop chipsets are more faster than laptops.
well, i dont like this, but, this is how the chipsets works.
why, we 'll never know!

Laptops aren't quite there yet in 2018. You will need to compromise if you go the laptop route. You could easily have a mini pc that is overpowered for the price you will pay for a gaming laptop.

Downsides to laptops/gaming laptops:
heat spots upwards of 65C (Diff temps for each laptop)
Battery lifespan on the downside.
Gotta bring peripherals everywhere

Upside:
Portable

Is it worth it ? Not for me.

It depends,
If you are a guy who like to roam around, then laptop would be best (like me)

Otherwise high end PC for gaming would be easily purchasable at same cost as what an average laptop costs.

I would get a desktop because they can handle more games and run the more smoothly.

I like my Laptop. Im not into gaming. For Programming it is erfect, because im mobile. I can work everywhere - or when i need more monitors i can work in my company. So if you want to be mobile, then get a laptop. If you dont have many space, get a laptop. If you like gaming, get a pc.
