How to get players.

Having players join is the easy part, but maintaining a community is a bit harder. Best I can recommend is be there for your players, get to know them, maybe give incentives or reason for them to stay around etc.

my best method is to make friends and invite them it's that simple. sadly it takes time you need connections.

Yeah, time seems to be the biggest hurdle in building a gmod server and community. I was lucky as the owner of a server I administrated encouraged people to migrate to my community when his started going down the drain because of poor management.

Honestly, by having a small player base to start out with, I don't join servers that have 0 players

Thank you for the advice, I will try to do something like that to make it more pleasant for players to play on the server!

For gaining a large number of players... Don't try to. Its really all about doing something you love, not fishing for how many people join it. I've had many successful projects that collected a lot of people over time. It's just about finding a bunch of people who like to spend time on the servers and enjoying the motive of it. Like HaloRP, there's a good amount of people who would love to Roleplay as marines and whatnot. Loads of addons on the workshop to use too.
