This will be a good feature, however there could be the issue of notifications messing up? I know it operates on uid, but won't new username owner end up with old notifications?

We took that into account when we created the notifications module. It works with UIDs only so it gives everyone the ability to change his username without any flaws or bugs.

I thought with it being user id's there would be no issues but thought I'd mention it in the event that something could happen.

That won't cause any problems. If it did your mentions would get fucked Everytime someone changes his name. You are identified by your uid.

It worked well with users not active for a year and 800 or less posts on Leak, and I still think that's a good system
