Is Buying Gems in "Clash of Clans" Pointless?

Clash of Clans is hugely popular worldwide, as it evident by a world CoC championship with a large pool of money involved, and a plethora of YouTube channels dedicated to CoC that have cropped up recently. It is also famous for its optional in-game purchases, with some people spending real money like crazy to buy in-game gems to boost their villages. But seeing that gems are very easy to obtain in-game, and progression, with or without gemming is fairly fast and easy, aren't these people just being too greedy? They could've gotten their precious builder if they just had waited. But no! They need it right now! And that, to me, sounds fairly stupid. What do you guys think?

In high elo is totally needed. You probably are someone who is in gold or something but if you go challenger then you need gems to boost everything.

It was worth it 1-2 years ago where it was a lot harder to receive gems. I purchased some gems myself at this time and they paid off to be honest.

Buying gems isnt stupid at all. I have bought alot. Its not that easy to to collect 2000 gems by removing obstacles.

Eh, I just find it a waste. I'd rather spend my money on something worthwhile like a new game perhaps.

I wouldn't recommend spending money on any mobile game. Far more useful ways to spend your money

In my eays is pointless. Becouse just remove bushes and stuff and you will get gems easy.

To get the gems themself without paying is hard but tbh what do you need gems for? Once you reach the high levels your builders will never always be busy and as of rn i can buy 625,000 gold for 402 gems which is about 3.50, OR i could do 2 or 3 raids. Not worth, maybe worth in lower levels do auto finish buildings, also worth for boosting barracks in high leagues.
