Is buying CS skins worth it?

You can try to invest in skins like stocks. Sticker capsules from big events are actually good investions sometimes.

I think it's very unnecessary. It doesn't add anything to you in the game, it doesn't change an effect or something in the game. Just color ... I don't know it seems unnecessary to me.

Depends really, if you can justify purchasing virtual skins then go ahead. Keep in mind that CS:GO's playerbase is quite stable, so if you're worried about losing money on a dying game - dont! If you have some valuable items for other games that you don't care much for go ahead and join a trading website, see if you can get the skins you want by trading your unwanted items.

I've made some money off of unboxing skins and trading, that's a little bit of fun. I don't really see much point in buying skins to keep them, but to each their own.
