Focus only on the animal, as you can tell the animal blends in with the background and its becoming quite hard to fully visualize what it is.
Make the background darker and leave the dog contour as it is so it brings the focus point to it.

If I was to be honest its a great 1st attempt. Your background choice was great as well since you made that also a poly. Theres many different ways to make a low poly design with others taking longer, but being more detailed. I recommend you go to illustrator and make the shapes with the pen tool instead of blending colors. This is so it could snap together and keep the overlapping look from appearing. Great job on the dog.

i think its a little confused in some points. you should try to clean up some edges.
