Ugh, why does this host give 1GB ram and 50GB HDD?

I recommend using vultr.com for a VPS. Their backend system is actually a lot better than you would think it was. I didn't even think so myself. Dirt cheap, too.
You could also check out nfoservers.com for a VDS/VPS. Game Server Provider; but great VDS functionality.

Both hosts fully DDoS protected.
If you need more resources, check out the dedis at servercomplete.com - instantly deployed in miami FL, any OS. I have the dual E5520 for $45 a month with ubuntu (got a $5 off coupon somewhere). The downside to this great host is that they are not DDoS protected in any way. One touch and it goes offline. They will also terminate you even if you receive too many DDoS attacks, just like trailormadeservers.
