In my opinion, it is better to start off with a more sophisticated programming language like C++ or Java, and then move on to easier languages such as Python. I learned C#(Very similar to Java) first, and then everything else gets easier. It also helps you learn important concepts such as OOP(Object Oriented Programming) that you don't learn if you do something like Python, and it is very useful for more complicated tasks.

Python is a very good choise to start to get a good programmation skill and then go to C++

Python is good for simple scripts etc, if you're into games then C++/C# I guess.

Python is a good start. C++ is also a good place to start from .

I agree with what you've already heard. Python is a great program to start with.

I prefer python at first then ruby and java. But c# can be another alternate for the beginning

I would start with something basic like luaor python.

I would really recommend python for the beginning but after that try to test yourself with Ruby or try HTML. anything game wise learn lua.. its so dumbly easy.

The number one thing you can do to learn programming is to come up with a project you want to complete. Have a purpose. I started because I wanted to make Minecraft mods.
The second thing you should do is buy and READ a highly rated programming textbook. It's boring. Very boring. but you will learn a ton this way.

Everyone is saying go for python. IMO you should start with python for only a few weeks to learn some basic concepts, then move on to C++/Java. Sticking with Python for too long will get you in bad habits and will stunt your growth.
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.
