I am currently using Better WP Security for all my wordpress site. It's looks fine and won't affect the loading speed of the website.

Use only one plugin. A lot of the security has to be done outside of wordpress. Password protect your admin area. Limit the amount of logins someone can do before they're locked out to prevent brute force attempt.

I actually use WP Cerber to block all bruteforcing attempts made by bots.
I never tried Better WP Security though. Will have a look about it.
