I had the flaw that each year a new phone came out I bought it.
I was very happy with it each time however due to the fact that I got it so soon everytime I always ended up waiting for a lot of bug fiixes and improvements etc.

Once when I got my new phone it took the creators about 6 months to have all their bugs and flaws sorted out, tbh back then it was a waste of my money. I'd recommend waiting atleast 6 months since the release date of the phone you are willing to get.

And now the only thing I REALLY need, and probably most of you all is a better battery ( increased storage )

I believe 4-5 years ago it was worth it to upgrade every year, but now phone are high end and they do not offer so much of a change for a buck they are charging for a newest phone..

I'd say upgrade every other year, it gives you time to choose as well as allows the market to grow with more choices

If you're truly concerned with having the newest phone each year you should probably opt for having a contact with a provider which allows you to trade up each year.

Personally upgrade every few years. I went BlackBerry Bold, S4, S6, S10

I dont see it worth. Smarthphones are more or less expensive and they do not change a lot in just a year.

As others mentioned, it's not worth it unless you have lots of money to throw away.

You probably hear that new cars depreciate in value a lot but did you know smartphones and some computers can depreciate in value even more (in terms of %)?
Back then, it might make sense to get a new smartphone after 1-2 years but now, technology for smartphones have started to slow down. People have started to upgrade slower than before (some statistics where the average used to be 2 years is now closer to 3 years or something).

Even budget smartphones these days can kind of hold its own against flagship smartphones for most users. It's just good enough for most people. Not everyone needs the best camera or best processor or most memory/storage.
