Without an expensive setup these days, I believe the ability to make profit off of bitcoin is not even worth it even more. If you plan on buying into it, I wouldn't expect much of a profit either. I myself invested $20 just to have fun with and withdrawed with about $15 which doesn't seem like a major loss, but thats 1/4 of your invested money gone

Bitmains new asic miners for altcoins like eth make hella profit, picked up an eth one earlier this year, made a bit but sold.

. you could probably invest in a botnet and have a few thousand slaves. that u can run ur bitcoin script on.
and probably make a job worth of salary.

If you do end up getting an antminer, make sure that your source of power can handle the amperage required for the power supply. Otherwise you'll need to get one of those 1600 watt PSUs meant for PCs. (They're much quieter btw)

Nowaday it's really hard to make an income with the mining technique. You need to have really huge amount of money to invest.
