Hell no, I'm still not over how boring linear games are. I understand that open world games with poor game design can be boring, distracting or even break your immersion, but I don't think this is unique to open world games at all.

agree with op.. sometimes too much freedom and choices will just take the joy out of gaming imho.. just started with Uncharted 4 and even though it's very linear still enjoy it so far

I really depends on how the world is built, and i do agree that sometimes its just a excuse towards poor and boring world building under the excuse that "you are free to do what you want". SoonTM we will have Cyberpunk and i think its going to be awesome.

There's a lot of unique open-world games that have pioneered that category, but, like usual there is a lot of fetch quest-based open-world games that get quite boring.

Yes and no. While they do undoubtedly lend themselves to repetitive, grind out tasks there's also that discovery element. Some studios do a better job than others when it comes to immersion and enjoyment of such open worlds. Far cry 3 is a great game, even after leading itself to the common open world pitfalls

Open world. So ubiquitous that it is almost useless to complain about them. But every time I have to navigate one of these things, for tens of hours I have to waste time trudging through vast digital landscapes, maybe I earned the right to poke a little. It's not always a bad thing, but when every other game is a wide open world, you start to notice patterns when it comes to things that bother you.

Well, I have to agree with you, I'm actually annoyed that it takes a long time to get to the finish line and in some games there is not even quick rice and that's even worse because you can't do anything at all.
