defunding should be removing funding for officers to be out not enforcing criminal law.

simply no officer should be on the clock and paid for any "traffic" division.
no officer should be involved in any matter of civil law.

stick to the criminal code and thats it

Defund the police is a silly way to say police needs more accountability. That's really what's needed. Make them accountable and good things will follow.

Does anyone REALLY think this is a good idea? I'm pretty sure a social worker wont stop a 300 lb man from beating his family..

Defend and unarm. They are overpowerd. Police should be afraid of us, we shouldn't be afraid of them.

I think if the police did their job well enough and the correct way without murdering innocent people, then defunding the police wouldn't be a choice. But here we are, society is heavily militarized not just in the U.S but everywhere. No one respects the police anymore because they're supposed to be protecting us not the other way around.

Logically, the police don't murder "innocent people."

Name one person shot by a police officer that wasn't committing some kind of crime when it occurred.

Also, I get that the "defund" word distracts from the discussion. Yes, mental health programs and all that need to be spun up. But sending social workers in lieu of police into potentially dangerous situations is already proving deadly. Look to Seattle. A social worker sent to a welfare check was stabbed to death.

So Defunding Police subject has been huge in USA. A lot of people support and at the same time a lot do not.

What does it mean to defund the police?
It is stated as "Defunding the police doesn't necessarily mean that all funding would be taken away from the department, but some funds would be divested from the department and invested in other programs.". (source)

Is this something you see it going at or do you think they will get rid of the police? If they get rid of the police then who takes over?
I didnt understood

so here's what I think--i support defunding the police as far as weaponry goes. no one needs to have such dangerous weapons (this applies to regular citizens too)

Well... if you think that more underpaid and more overworked police officers will help defeat the systemic police brutality then go ahead. The thing is that the entry barrier for becoming a cop should be higher. Make police school longer, make stricter entry exams, make more education programs to combat ancient believes.
In other countries it takes years to become a cop, in America it's like a couple weeks/ months. Most cops receive incentives for meeting their quotas on tickets & things like that. Motives are all wrong nowadays

Defunding the police does not mean getting rid of them

I think all cops should be defended, and reapply. For those who don't pass the qualifications are the ones who are the bad cops, and they need to go. You will know who is a good cop if you test them.
