the topic you have put up is very sensitive. cutting police departments funding would be the exact thing as removing them.So removing the police force would be a good idea? NO, absolutely no! if u dont wanna get stripped off of ur belongings the next minmute

The whole concept is retarded, there are already upwards of 50% crime increases in places like NY....and any other place where they thought reducing police budget was 'smart'.

It always kind of boggles my mind, how people can actually look at stats of how many police encounters there are, and how many of them actually get violent to the point of shooting, and still come up with this idea that defunding the police is a good idea. And as Txheat24 said, have a look at those cities now. Record crime.

It's a very cute utopian idea that we can just designate people to go to specific cases. That's impossible. A mental health case can easily escalate to one where cops would need to be. And if they aren't there to begin with, then what?

Cops aren't trained to be mental health professionals or counselors, they're regular men and women (HUMAN), they can judge a situation and act accordingly. If they think someone else should be called for the job, then by all means.

Just sad that people fail to see that good that cops actually have been doing. Like any situation thought, people will only find the negatives.
cant agree with you more.

i love how people are talking like this is a sensitive topic, when actually its a topic that you either understand or you dont.

those underpaid overworked cops would benefit tremendously in the long run, you cant just stop at you first reacion and call it your opinion. you have to keep thinking further

defunding the police will not work. when most people say it they mean that they want the system to be abolished, that will not work in our society. defunding the police could also mean to cut the budget thats given to police departments and to spread that money throughout a community

Defunding the police is a good and practical idea, and it's because of a lack of knowledge on the subject, the rich history of police/prison abolitionism, and deep poverty of imagination that people write it off.

Police departments are enormous sinks of municipal funds, which are mostly wasted or go to harmful incarceration--police are used as the primary tool against a city's social problems but they make it worse. Empirically, decades of budget increases haven't decreased crime--experiments have slashed budgets and seen crime go down.

The key is, the money we spend on police and incarceration, we spend on social programs to stop the social causes of problems. It is way more efficient and frankly the US police/prison systemjust make everything cyclically worse

So Defunding Police subject has been huge in USA. A lot of people support and at the same time a lot do not.

What does it mean to defund the police?
It is stated as "Defunding the police doesn't necessarily mean that all funding would be taken away from the department, but some funds would be divested from the department and invested in other programs.". (source)

Is this something you see it going at or do you think they will get rid of the police? If they get rid of the police then who takes over?
I think the proposed idea is that they'll be able to create emergency teams that are more suited to mental health crises of all sorts and that know how to properly handle situations like this. That being said, I want them to defund it....

Awful idea already proven to result in more crime, including deadly shootings.
