What do you think of religions?

I really think religions should belong to the past. They're just a tool to control the people...
They might have some good and incentize people to act good, but they usually just do more harm than good.

Not sure, I believe in evolution, so using that as a framework, isn't there an evolutionary benefit to a large group of people believing in the same thing?

Having a unified "sense of truth"(not actual truth), or meaning could be a strong reason why people in the past made it this far, and allowed people to trust and work together.
Because if your society/village trusted each other more than another village, then you're probably more likely to survive.

On the other side there are problems with belief system because even if you do survive it doesn't mean you'll enjoy surviving in a world with weird rules that don't make sense.
You could say we know too much now, so having an old belief systems might not work, because people can't live with beliefs that conflict with are new found knowledge.
If that's the case then we're in a transition period on finding new meaning/belief that gets along with our knowledge. But there is a danger in falling into a new belief system... the new belief system might be wrong, because having knowledge doesn't mean we know how to act, example having too much information makes it very difficult to make a decision.
So some of us might make the wrong decisions. How to fix this might be setting up a situation where we can make mistakes without ruining peoples lives, and then benefit from the people who stumble on the right thing. Kinda sounds like how evolution works except it would be nice to let are ideas die instead of us.

Hmm, I might be ranting too much lol so I'll stop here.

I think they lead people toward acting in a very hateful and negative way.

I am an atheist, I find religions somewhat superfluous and that some live out their religion too strongly, but in itself I have nothing that people believe in what.

Religions mostly get people inconflict, because their interests dont match

Atheist - I recommend reading or watching the movie Life of Pi. It can shine some perspective on religion in an interesting way and by no means is it a movie that does promote Atheism.

It is one's own choice. Anyone can believe in almost anything nowadays, freely. I respect all religions but I disrespect people who try to impose other into their religions.

I don't judge anyone that believes but I personally don't think they should be the main focus of ur life? Like worshipping someone all the time idk
