While it isn't the zeitgeist anymore, there are a wealth of great bands out there today

Parquet Courts, King Gizz, Black Midi, Oxbow... etc

I've always hated the declaration that a genre is dead simply because it's evolved with time so I'm hoping those that have lost faith in rock may see this.
Rock has ALWAYS been a wide open genre with a lot of different sounds, so I'm going to throw a few modern bands your way and they may not fit your idea of rock perfectly, but we cab rectify that easily by you commenting below what you consider rock and I can nearly promise I can find you some modern sounds that fit it.

I don't think so, I think it's changed. There exists modern rock and it's very Indie now.

Rock isn't dead. Even rappers are including rock into their music now like MGK
